Tharaka Hettiarachchi

“Ubi concordia, ibi Victoria” – Publius Syrus

Tharaka is currently employed as the Director for United Nations and International Affairs at the Secretariat for Coordinating Reconciliation Mechanisms (SCRM) where he serves in facilitating and building international support towards the Transitional Justice and Reconciliation Agenda of the Government of Sri Lanka. He also serves as a Visiting Lecturer to the Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Graduate Studies at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka in addition to functioning as a part-time News Anchor. He is a graduate from the Monash University (Masters in Diplomacy and Trade) and University of Nottingham (BA International Business Management).

He has been an ardent MUNer from his high-school to university years, having participated in numerous MUN conferences all over the world and having won multiple Best Delegate, Best Speaker and Higher Commendations. He has also served as President Security Council and Head of Training at Colombo Operated Model United Nations; President Futuristic Security Council at the Sri Lanka Model United Nations; Head of Host Team and Director Training, Nottingham Model United Nations Association (NUMUNA), University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus; and Secretary General of NUMUNA .

Tharaka looks forward to building a career as an international relations specialist with key emphasis on understanding on how political institutions, processes and public policies operate developing countries and post conflict nations.

Tharaka is a major cinephile and avid reader. He also enjoys watching and playing cricket and football—mostly watching though.
